I trust that you had a relaxing summer break and are ready for the fresh challenges a new year brings.
2022 promises many uncharted waters as we face a disturbing and unsettled political environment in Europe, become better attuned to Omicron, prepare for a Federal election in May, and consider the prospect of rising interest rates.
2021 was however another strong year for the industry with overall sales being 24,700 units; a 27% increase on the preceding year.
As we look forward, there is still much to be optimistic about, with commodity prices strengthening in recent months and the forthcoming Federal election & State election in Victoria, likely to ensure the focus on infrastructure funding remains.
From a CMEIG perspective it is encouraging to see the renewal and establishment of new working groups, as we strive to improve and represent our industry on issues that impact the responsible delivery of business.
In this issue, we provide the latest update on the Federal taskforce on Adblue supply, which CMEIG has been actively engaged with over the summer.
Additionally, there is an article warning of the pitfalls of importing new, unused or low-hour grey market machines, following some recent occurrences.
Lastly, there is reference to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s new guidance for light to medium heavy vehicles.
With the escalating situation in Europe our thoughts go out to anyone who may be affected. We also note the Federal Government warnings as to the heightened cyber security threat.
On a local front, our thoughts are with those impacted by the flood crisis unfolding in Queensland and Northern NSW.
Our Annual General Meeting is to be held in March. Details to be provided shortly. I look forward to seeing you then.
Best Regards
Dean Gaedtke
Chair CMEIG
