CMEIG’s Education and Training Group (ETG) is actively advancing workforce development and training initiatives to support the evolving needs of the construction and mining equipment sectors.

Recent highlights include:

  • Nominating industry representatives to AUSMASA’s Strategic Workforce Advisory Panel
  • Re-establishing a cross-member Training and Education Group, with the first meeting set for November 2025
  • Contributing to AUSMASA’s Vocational Degree Phase 2 project, focused on reliability and testing engineers

In addition, CMEIG’s ETG and Engineering Working Group (EWG), supported by members from Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, LiuGong, XCMG, and Volvo, have united to develop a shared position on upskilling heavy-duty mechanics for electric machinery.

Australia’s automotive and mining industries are undergoing rapid transformation, driven by electrification, automation and zero-emission heavy vehicles. To stay ahead, we must equip our workforce, both current and future, with the knowledge and skills to service and maintain this new generation of technology.

To help address this, the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA convened a roundtable of key industry stakeholders. At a recent session, CMEIG’s Oz Ali (pictured) provided an overview of emerging OEM technologies and CMEIG’s position on workforce readiness, by maximising the use our current workforce.

This work forms part of our commitment to futureproofing the skills pipeline and ensuring a strong, capable workforce to support Australia’s transition to low-emission, high-efficiency equipment.
