Education & Training working group update – winter 2026
CMEIG continues to actively represent the construction and mining equipment sector across several important workforce and training initiatives. Key priorities include:
- ensuring mobile plant remains within the scope of the Certificate III in Automotive EV Technology review
- supporting future industry electrification requirements
- advocating for a machine control and guidance technician standalone qualification.
CMEIG is also monitoring proposed changes to EV skill set entry requirements to ensure suitable pathways remain available for mobile plant technicians and auto electricians.
In parallel, work is underway across the industry to review the Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology and identify the skills needed to support increasingly automated, connected and electrified equipment.
These initiatives will help ensure the industry’s workforce remains future-ready and equipped to support evolving construction, mining and earthmoving technologies.
