Engineering & Standards update – winter 2026
CMEIGs Engineering Working Group (EWG) continues to strengthen its influence across key industry standards and regulatory initiatives. More than 15 members attended the most recent face to face meeting hosted by Liebherr in May, demonstrating strong industry engagement. The group remains actively involved in a number of focus areas ensuring member interests are represented through ongoing participation in technical committees and engagement with regulators, including:
- the revision of AS 1418.8 (crane standards)
- the revision of AS 5062 (Fire Prevention and Protection for Mobile Equipment),
The EWG has also successfully:
- collaborated with Safe Work Queensland on operator presence systems
- provided technical expertise to the Federal Government on renewable diesel feasibility
- supported the Victorian Government’s understanding of electrified mobile equipment and servicing requirements.
Recent EWG outputs include:
- the publication of guidance on impact-resistant glass solutions
- the transition to more environmentally friendly R1234yf refrigerants.
Work is also continuing on excavator and backhoe lift charts, along with skills and training requirements for electrified equipment in Western Australia and Victoria.
