Rod Hale’s mission to promote prostate cancer awareness

Long-time friend of CMEIG, Rod Hale continues to make a significant contribution to prostate cancer awareness across the construction equipment industry.

After a 44-year career with the Tutt Bryant Group in PNG and Australia, Rod was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer in 2018. Now a survivor, he is dedicated to promoting early detection and has served as a volunteer ambassador for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) since 2024.

Rod organises and delivers prostate cancer awareness presentations for CMEIG members across Australia. Most recently, he presented in Townsville to teams from Komatsu, Kobelco, Hitachi, Clark Equipment, John Deere and Hastings Deering. CMEIG and participating members assist with Rod’s travel expenses, which he largely funds himself.

This September, Rod will again take part in The Long Run, walking 72 kilometres to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and support services.

Rod highlights the importance of early detection, noting that each day 79 Australian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and 11 lose their lives to the disease. A simple PSA blood test can help detect prostate cancer early, contributing to a five-year survival rate of almost 96%.

Rod’s presentations have already prompted several CMEIG members to seek treatment early, helping them return to work and normal life.

To arrange a presentation from Rod for your team please contact CMEIG and we will put you in contact with Rod.
