John McNamara studied Civil Engineering at RMIT before joining what is now Melbourne Water then Morgan Drainage and eventually Leighton Contractors. He started at Leighton Contractors as a Construction Project Manager, eventually rising through the ranks to take the role of General Manager Southern Region, covering Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.
John joined the Perth based ASX listed Winterbottom Group in late 1979 as Executive Director – Manufacturing and Construction and quickly identified an opportunity to secure distribution of the full range of Komatsu mining, construction and forestry equipment for Victoria, South Australia and Northern Territory.
The business unit, Forcepower Komatsu, commenced in August 1980, at which time John recruited Frank Dawson as General Manager of the Melbourne based business. The Tasmanian Komatsu distribution was subsequently acquired and integrated into the business of which John was now Managing Director.
Expansion of the Forcepower business continued until the late 1980s.
More recently John has been a director of Alto Recruitment and has been a consistent and active member of CMEIG Victoria.
