CMEIG has conducted an audit of skills training for the sector and is working with the newly appointed regulator (AUSMASA) on the introduction of qualifications.

AUSMASA is the Australian Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (ausmasa.org.au) and the Jobs and Skills Council for Mining and Automotive industries.

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for skilled workers in the electric vehicle and lifting industries. To address this, AUSMASA has introduced new qualifications for low voltage training on Battery Electric Vehicles and for Variable Lifting training. These qualifications aim to ensure that workers in these industries have the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely and efficiently.

The low voltage training on Battery Electric Vehicles qualification will look to cover the installation, maintenance, and repair of low voltage electrical systems in battery electric vehicles. It includes topics such as electrical safety, battery technology, and diagnostic procedures.

The Variable Lifting training qualification covers the safe operation of variable lifting equipment, such as cranes, hoists, and elevators. It includes topics such as risk assessment, load calculations, and safe lifting practices.

Overall, these qualifications are designed to help ensure that workers in these industries have the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively, which is important for both their own safety and the safety of others.
